Manitowoc cleaning and maintenance

Manitowoc's owner manual says to descale and sanitize every six months, more often if the water requires it, and to clean the condenser at least every six months, because a dirty condenser raises operating temperatures, reduces ice production and shortens component life (Manitowoc).

California requires ice makers to be cleaned at the frequency the manufacturer specifies (HSC 114117), and ice is food under the state food code (HSC 113781). See ice machine cleaning and sanitizing and water filters.

Where Manitowoc machines struggle

Manitowoc sets the air temperature range for its self-contained air-cooled machines at 40°F to 110°F (Manitowoc). Machines in hot back rooms, beside ovens or in unventilated hotel alcoves run at the edge of that range. If your machine keeps losing production in summer, the room may be the problem.

Replacing a Manitowoc machine

New self-contained ice machines up to 1,000 pounds per day (batch) or 1,200 pounds per day (continuous) have been limited to refrigerants with a GWP under 150 since January 1, 2026 (40 CFR 84.54). See ice machine installation and replacement for sizing, location, drains and rebates.
